Help Clark

This is a remarkably sad story. In about a year’s time Clark Metcalfe was hit by a motorist on two separate occasions (most recently on Jan. 23, 2006) while riding his bike in San Diego, CA. He’s a bike industry guy and lifelong competitive cyclist. It’s not known if he’ll ever ride a bike again. Follow the links on this site, set up for him by friends, to learn more. Please donate.

Steriodal Golden State Tour

Have you noticed Velo News’ “live” coverage of the Amgen Tour of California? Pretty cool! Know who Amgen is? Amgen pioneered EPO, illegally used by cyclists and other endurance athletes to boost oxygen intake. Funny.

QBP Distribution

Last fall Hypnotic visited QBP (Quality Bicycle Products) to get a tour, see some old pals and pitch the product. In the end we had a handshake deal – QBP would distribute the men’s and women’s knickers in black for 2006 (to begin with) and (most likely) beyond. Being the conservative chap I am, I told few people – didn’t want to jinx anything. An irrational fear really, but I wanted the thing to go off without a hitch. The clothing business is not without hitches. I planned on flying this one below the radar until the product was on the shelves. I’m happy to announce, the day is upon us folks - QBP dealers can now purchase Hypnotic knickers along with lube and tires and whatever else one gets from the behemoth one stop shop. GO NUTS!

Make A Human, Ride A Bike

You know how you get tired of doing the same thing over and over, even if you love it? With cycling I’m mostly into dirt riding, but I commute, dabble with road, ‘cross, etc. Another facet of cycling for me is I like to ride with purpose, meaning, I always do better when I’ve got a certain trail or destination in mind. Before I leave the house I have to "package" the event. I have trouble just “going for a ride.” Then you’ve got the different seasons to change things up. That’s the mix. It’s a good mix for me. Keeps me content year round. But good can always be better. Enter having a child.

You’re supposed to wait about one year or so to trailer a baby. By that time they’re physically ready for the experience and if you’re lucky, they’ll tolerate a helmet. I was SO looking forward to this day. As it happened, the clouds and rain retreated (from months of solid rain) to give us a glorious day. Since Oskar was born we’ve strolled with him almost every day in the Chariot, so he’s use to that gig and he’s way into it. I had no idea how cool it would be to ride with my son. I still need a coffee shop or something as a destination, but I’m stoked to add this to the mix and I know Oskar is too. It’s a new challenge and one that is full of purpose. Here’s a pic from the other weekend – his first ride ever on his first birthday.

One-Speed Oskar

It was exactly one year ago today Dana and I found ourselves in a holding pattern, waiting for our son Oskar to be born.

Tomorrow we celebrate his birth. Oskar Pablo Fraser was born February, 4th 2005 @ 5:01pm. He came out of the chute at a strapping 9lbs 6oz.

It's That Time Of Year Again . . .

Just looked at my calendar and noticed today is Groundhog Day. According to Punxsutawney Phil we're looking at another 6 weeks of "mild winter." That puts it at March 16th for sweet, dry singletrack. Hot damn! Thanks Phil.
