Scary Knicker News

For the 5 years we've lived up the hill and in the woods, not a single kid has graced our doorstep for Halloween. Last year one of our pumpkins was carved with "SUGAR IS EVIL." I'm sure that didn't help the cause. Since there wasn't much happening tonight, I've decided to post a knicker update. Yes, there's no rest for the Hypnotic weary - working the Halloween shift here.

A trick this ain't. Not even a treat really. Just honest to goodness plain talking truth here folks. Originally I had hoped to ship off new men’s knickers by the end of October. The end of October has now come and gone. What gives? First a little recap of things, then the latest and greatest.

In mid-September the word I got from my (Canadian) fabric vendor was that fabric would be shipping the end of the September. They didn’t actually ship it until the beginning of last week – 3 weeks into October. FYI, I ordered fabric mid-August. They say 4 to 8 weeks for production. I went with a safe and optimistic 6 weeks, but it turned out to be 8 weeks.

The contractor has not yet received the fabric, but I expect they will any day now. They (contractor) say they can turn around an order in 2 weeks. Assuming their schedule will allow them to finally begin production in the next week or so and taking into account ship times for finished goods to Hypnotic, we’re looking roughly at Thanksgiving for a ship date to you. That is my best guess at this point. And admittedly, it’s a hopeful guess. I wouldn’t be shocked if it were the end of November before I get anything out to you.

For those that have decided to stick with me, keeping backorders intact, thank you for your patience and continued support. I couldn’t just barely break even come tax time without you. Dana tells me this is poor English. I couldn't agree less?!

Lucy Press

I’m pretty sure I’m the last person in the continental U.S. to receive Dirt Rag. I had people calling and telling me about the Lefty Lucy review weeks before I was ever able to see it. Although, I will have to say I went to my local evil mega bookstore - Borders (the only local place I know of that carries the magazine around here, including bike shops!) and found that they too did not have it. I think it’s the fact we are in a small, somewhat isolated, northern California community and things just take time to get here.

Anyhow, I finally got issue #117 last week. The cover looks like this:

Page 72 has a great review of the Lefty Lucy women’s knicker. It’s at the tail end of the “STUFF” section, right before the profile of frame builder Joseph (Hypnotic knicker wearer) Ahearne. I felt the Lucy review was positive, factual, detailed, and honest. With a fine pic to boot. Nice job Thanita! Scare up a copy and check it out.

Fat Tire Mail

I got a really nice email from one of the brewers at New Belgium Brewing Company in Fort Collins, CO the other day. I’ve reprinted it with Bill’s permission:

Hi,

I am a brewer here in Fort Collins and an avid cyclist.
I stumbled upon your ad in Dirt Rag. I have been enjoying
your blog and agree with (and applaud) your philosophy:
"The more people on bikes, the less people in cars".

I also dig that your clothing is made here in Amerika,
and you keep an eye out for the little guy.

We try and do the same here at New Belgium. We're
wind-powered, we collect methane from our
process water and burn it to make more electricity,
we're the largest consumer of organic Patagonia cotton
in the U.S. (beer label T-shirts,) and we promote bicycling
culture and environmental awareness.

Which is where you come in, 'cuz I do a twenty mile commute
and race single-speeds (currently on a Surly 1X1,) and am always
on the look-out for clothing that can make the transition from
bike to work.

I would like to send you some beer. Can you tell me where to
send it?

Cheers,

Bill

Yep, you read it correctly – “I would like to send you some beer.” I about crapped my pants! Next thing your know a pair of knickers are going out to him and 3+ cases of malted nectar are coming my way. Not a bad day at the office!

Not only is New Belgium’s beer quite tasty, but they go several important steps further and take care of business in an energy efficient and socially responsible manner. For example, their brewery is 100% wind powered! To learn more about their programs, click here.

Last but not least, New Belgium is into bikes and bike culture. Their passion for the two-wheeled wonder goes deeper than putting a bike on a beer label (the unmistakable Fat Tire Ale). They’ve created some very cool bike-related programs, namely the Tour de Fat and the Team Wonderbike Pledge.

There’s my advertisement for New Belgium. Thanks Bill and keep up the good work! MAN am I thirsty now. Must be beer o'clock . . .

I came across this image yesterday. Don't know anything about it. Just thought it was neato.
